Local Royalty honored at the Grand Victorian

Note: this post is from an earlier event - August 2009
Every August an event called the Rubber Ducky Festival is held in Bellaire Michigan - and what event is not complete without a parade?? The ‘Rubber Ducky’ Parade is held at the end of the 3 day festival which includes all the Northern Michigan Queens, their courts, and their lovely floats. This year we were honored to have Michigan’s Cherry Festival Queen in attendance.
The Queens disembark from their floats in front of the Grand Victorian - a fitting venue for these young people deserving some Royal Treatment! While the queens are having pictures taken as they meander the grounds, volunteers are busy assembling a delectable buffet lunch… well, dare I say - ‘fit for a queen’! The event allows the young people to get together and share experiences and future plans. Equally important, the royalty receive much deserved praise for presenting a positive role model and for the many hours of commitment during their reign. Individual achievements are recognized and some scholarships are awarded for a job well done! Those attending also take home an appreciation for the historical contributions made by earlier men and women along with the history of Bellaire and the Grand Victorian House. While the day can be exhausting for all concerned, it also provides a wonderful memory for all. Isn’t it great to see such talented young people making a positive impact in their communities?
